The 1986 New York Mets Inspired This Scrapped Packer x New Balance 660 Collaboration

In light of the “30 for 30” documentary aired earlier in the week, Packer Shoes’ own Aaron Kr. has teased a scrapped New Balance collaboration that was made to celebrate the New York Mets.

A fan himself, Kr. talks about the retailer’s conversation with the Boston-based footwear brand back in 2015, during which they revealed a new addition to the line-up: the 660, a shoe that instantly reminded Kr. of 660AM “The Fan,” a longtime radio home for the Mets. And while mostly comprised of Yankees devotees, Packer humored the odd-one-out, allowing for the shoe to be given a makeover that directly nods to 1986, a big year for the baseball team.

And while it never made it close to production, one sample exists of the two’s collaboration. Mets colors — i.e. dark navy, bright orange, and neutral grey — dress much of the exterior, arranged adjacent to a matching tongue labels, a pinstriped insole, and the like. Enjoy a detailed look for yourself below.
