A little over a year ago, it was announced that Chitose Abe would take over Jean Paul Gaultier’s next couture show. But due likely to COVID, it was delayed further out, affording Nike the time to commemorate the collaboration with their own. Here, we take the best look yet at the triumvirate’s upcoming VaporWaffle, which turns the already bold silhouette into a creation of many different influences.
JPG offers a number of suggestions, which both sacai and Nike take him up on as they tweak the model past its original blueprint. Now, the low-top has turned mid, its higher structure supported by layers of both leather and suede. And while the sole may remain identical to past options, the upper construction itself is far more unique, with panels adhered together by way of a thick cross stitch. Elsewhere, co-branded labels and prints mark the tongue and insole, respectively, finishing both the black and multi-color variations.
For a closer look at both, see below. A release, while TBD, should be announced within the coming months.
In other news, the UNDERCOVER Nike Vaporfly is nearly here.
