The Nike Air Max Furyosa, whose namesake could be a reference to a number of influences, may be the brand’s most intimidating model this year thus far. Its design, though a subversion of tradition pure and simple, subtly incorporates the DNA of a few of its predecessors.
The sole, however, seems to be a relatively new concept, proposing not one but two Air Units stacked tightly together. Along the middle, the tooling abruptly splits, connected to the solid-toned block forward thanks only to the recycled Grind outsole underfoot. Above, the construction seems to borrow the general idea of more established icons as the thick mesh is layered over top with both Air Max 98 and Air Max 270 reminiscent paneling. All familiarity essentially ends there, however, as the lace unit delivers a ghillie-inspired system, fastening in tandem with an additional string that wraps from the toe all the way to the heel. An inner bootie offers even further security, rounding out a pair worth its weight in utility.
