Sneaker News Nike’s continuing homage to Ken Griffey Jr. continues with this upcoming Air Force 1 that not only recognizes the current Senior Advisor to the MLB Commissioner, but his father and one-time teammate – the OG Ken Griffey. The immediate connection can be seen with the “JR” and “SR” markings on the heel-tab, with the left shoe featuring Junior’s 24 jersey number and the right opting for the Senior’s 30. And while a white/black base is used for the majority of the colorway, Nike chooses the throwback Mariners colors of royal and gold to commemorate that short yet unforgettable span that father and son shared the field. The heel-tab also features etched markings to resemble wood-grain seen in baseball bats, while the red stitching is an obvious call-out to those seen on baseballs.
Ken Griffey Sr., at the time, played for the Cincinnati Reds, but eventually made his way to Seattle. While father’s career was winding down towards permanent retirement, his son’s Hall Of Fame career was only beginning.
As of now, a release ate is not certain, but we expect these to drop during the 2021 MLB season.
