The fact that Nike’s extensive collection of Waffle models traces back to Bill Bowerman using a waffle iron to create the Swoosh’s first running shoes almost five decades ago is fascinating. With the likes of the Nike Waffle Racer and the new Nike Waffle One, the pattern continues to provide traction to various heritage-style runners after all this time. Adding to the lineup is a new, women’s-exclusive “Photon Dust” arrangement for the Nike Waffle Trainer 2 that flaunts a sleek, wearable look.
Plush mesh uppers see a Photon Dust hue that is contrasted by the darker grey applied to the suede overlays wrapping around the toe and heel, lacestays, and heel tab. The side Swooshes threw in another color and texture into the mix, clad in smooth white leather. Nodding to the ’70s track styles that inspired this silhouette, the tongue opts for a yellow exposed foam design for an aged look. Under the foam midsole, a black rubber outsole that features no other than the iconic Waffle traction pattern completes the minimalist’s dream of a design.
