Unearthed from the archives at the tail-end of 2020 by the Teddy Santis-led Aimê Leon Dore (ALD), the New Balance 550 has become one of the most coveted silhouettes among savvy sneaker enthusiasts. After-market prices, however, have made the model’s collaborative ensembles inaccessible to some, which has allowed in-line colorways to shine.
For its next solo effort, New Balance has dipped the 1989-design in a green and yellow color palette. The aforementioned New York City-based imprint had already featured these tones on the vintage basketball model, but the successor has gone all-out with the Green Bay Packers-friendly color combination. Smooth and perforated leather construction throughout the upper indulge in the eye-catching green tone, while accents along the mid-foot, tongue and at the heel boast stark yellow contrast. Profile “N” logos opt into a seemingly reflective white finish, but are outlined by the sun-reminiscent hue. Underfoot, sole units on the NB 550 forgo the vintage-styled midsole popularized by Santis in favor of a pristine white composition accompanied by greyscale tread.
A stateside NewBalance.com release date may be in the works, but this pair is currently available overseas. In any case, enjoy images of the shoes here below.
