Michael Le Upon its introduction last year, the Air Jordan 5 “Anthracite” garnered surprisingly little buzz compared to its University Blue counterparts. However, now just a couple days out from the official release, the colorway has received a fair bit of attention.
In terms of construction, Jordan has implemented a few new changes. A “reconstructed” and “reconfigured” iteration, as the brand has been quoted saying, the “Anthracite” is something of a proof of concept, with reflective materials moved from the tongue and divided amongst the instep and quarter panels. Now, the Jumpman-branded fixture is far more unassuming, clad in nylons and shaded completely dark. Elsewhere, underneath the slightly see-through treads, moderate speckling, and “23” stamps, the upper makes due with grey suedes and a black ballistic mesh.
