Jovani Hernandez The first month of 2021 isn’t over yet, but NIKE, Inc. has already surprised countless sneaker enthusiasts with official (and unofficial) looks at some long-anticipated retros prepped for the year. Recently, the Nike Air Tuned Max in its futuristic “Dark Charcoal/Celery/Saturn Red” entered the mix.
Referenced by Skepta for his lauded Air Max 97 collaboration from 2017, the forthcoming reissue features the first-ever full-length Tuned Air unit. The Pebax-backed cushioning is most commonly associated with the Air Max Plus (commonly referred to in the Boy Better Know frontman’s hometown as “TNs”) that debuted a year prior (1998), but the Air Tuned Max’s shimmering colorway is entirely its own. The Swoosh has scarcely revisited the drab color palette, but hits of “Celery” and “Saturn Red” have emerged on new propositions like the Air Max Zephyr. Yet, their return atop the ’99-design’s breathable, “Dark Charcoal”-clad mesh and TPU profile overlays is incomparable.
