NIKE, Inc. announced its “Move to Zero” campaign in September 2019. Since then, the sportswear behemoth has been gradually ramping up its sustainability efforts, with 2020 seeing dozens of footwear options constructed from upcycled materials. One of the biggest culprits has been the iconic Nike Air Force 1, which is slated to begin 2021 in a “White/Clear/Light Smoke Grey/Black” ensemble complete with recycled wool detailing.
From quarter panel to forefoot, the forthcoming pair indulges in a timeless arrangement. Midfoot panels, however, introduce the aforementioned recycled fabric into the mix, which opts into a greyscale palette. Instead of being overlaid in their standard slightly-protruding fashion, profile swooshes are printed onto the wool side walls. Red stitching interrupts the muted color scheme, as it does on the tongue label. Underfoot, sole units revert to an unassuming hue, but they feature speckling that delivers some personality to the otherwise dull tooling.
