In addition to being the original action sports brand, Vans has championed individual creative expression since its inception. On this front, the California institution has tapped artists from all over the world, developed the Vans Customs platform and reimagined some of its most iconic silhouettes in statement-making arrangements. For its next endeavor, the brand is revisiting its partnership with The Magritte Foundation and Opening Ceremony to commemorate the influential work of René Magritte again.
The two-pair capsule follows the first drop in Vans’ collaboration with MoMA, which highlights fellow surrealist Salvador Dalí. Whereas 2014’s ready-to-wear range featured fragmented faces and chairs on fire, the forthcoming Slip-On and Old Skool duo nods to two of the Belgian artists’ most recognizable works. The former, which consists of a cold greenish sole unit, transplants “Les Amants” (1928) onto its canvas upper; the laced-option is clad in a gradient color palette that’s accompanied by a pattern of “Souvenir de Voyage” (1961). Although both “The Lovers” and “Memory of A Journey” are decades old, they equally encourage spectators to question reality today as they did during the height of Surrealism.
Enjoy a look at this three-way-colllaboration here below, and finds pairs available on October 8th.
