Junya Watanabe‘s reserved approach to New Balance collaborations is certainly under-appreciated. And while his mainline collection often dives deep into repurposed militaria, utility, and patchwork, each of his arriving pieces of footwear prefer to ground in their instantly evident versatility. The upcoming take on the 574 is certainly no exception as it leans solely on material and quality to distinguish itself against the parallel GR roster.
Though it hasn’t seen quite as many partnerships this year relative to the 992, the 574 is still an uncontested classic, its shape a solid entry level option for people new to NB’s product line. Watanabe’s take here, though, is far more expensive in feel, look, and — of course — price. Patent leather construction seems to replace all except for the tooling, its usage proffering a polish that wouldn’t be easily replicated on ordinary fabrications. “N” logos laid over top as well as the toe box, collar, and paneling adjacent follow suit, while the lining, laces, and tongue patch defer to their usual composition.
Grab a detailed look at these right here and expect a release to make its way to select retailers by tomorrow, September 25th.
