Vans Announces Winners Of The $50,000 Vans Custom Culture Competition

Vans Announces Winners Of The $50,000 Vans Custom Culture Competition

Amid the global slowdown of day-to-day life caused by COVID-19, Vans continues to uplift spirits and enable creativity. The California institution’s latest effort – the 11th annual Vans Custom Culture competition – recently concluded by awarding $50,000 USD to Strawberry Mansion High School of Philadelphia, PA and George Washington High School of San Francisco, CA.

The Vans Custom Culture High School competition – which began in 2010 – invites students from across the country to creatively express themselves on iconic “Off The Wall” silhouettes. Historically, only custom physical shoe submissions have been accepted, but this year’s event made digital creations available given the current COVID-19 landscape. Both Strawberry Mansion High School and George Washington High School submitted a Slip-On inspired by their respective cities and will support their art programs with the $50,000 USD reward. (The contest has put more than $1 million back into high school art programs nationwide since its inception.) Four runner-up schools in Los Angeles, Idaho, Oregon, and New York will each receive $10,000 USD towards their own art programs, as well as mentorship with a Vans ambassador.

Enjoy a look at the winning designs ahead. And for more uplifting news from the California-based brand, check out the Vans Customs Class of 2020 options.
