Nike Sportswear’s concept-driven N.354 label launched in June 2019 with one purpose: To celebrate The Swoosh’s legacy of experimentation. Since then, new takes on classics like the Air Force 1 have been produced, but little has been done on the running-related front, which is strange given that “N.354” nods to Steve Prefontaine’s fastest mile. Soon, however, that’ll change with the Daybreak Type.
Fundamentally rooted in the Daybreak, this newly-surfaced experimental iteration adds a “deconstructed” spin to the runner from 1979. Mesh bases, which are clad in “Barely Volt” on the pair pictured here, are variably reinforced as demonstrated by its semi-transparent midfoot area. Swaths across the forefoot, heel and tongue add visual and material contrast to this Daybreak Type given their “Black” and “Smoke Grey” color scheme, as well as suede composition. Elsewhere, “Baltic Blue” enters the arrangement at the laces, quarter panel and tongue’s exposed stitching and “N.354” branded heel panels. Outlined profile Swooshes ostensibly take a page out of Tom Sachs‘ playbook given their handrawn aesthetic, as tongues do Virgil Abloh‘s with their vintage-treated, exposed foam. A “yin-and-yang” colored midsole/outsole combination rounds out the new model with some semblance of familiarity underfoot.
Stateside release details are still unknown, but this Daybreak Type is launching at Nike.com webstores overseas on April 30th. While you wait, enjoy official images of the pair here below.
Elsewhere in the world of running, Nike is launching the Pegasus 37 on April 30th.
