While New Balance has curtailed its focus on basketball amid COVID-19’s stranglehold on the sport, it continues to deliver notable collaborative and solo lifestyle releases. And the latest in-line 997S is reminiscent of Concepts‘ “Rosé” 997 from 2014.
As denoted by the letter in its name, the 997S proffers a sportier look than its 1991 predecessor. This “Pink/Grey” arrangement features the faint rose hue prominently across the pair’s brushed pigskin and mesh upper, similar to Concepts’ take six years ago. Branding across the midfoot, tongue and heel on the sporty 997 deviate from the celebratory drink palette with shades of grey, but their surrounding underlays and tooling offer textures akin to the embossed crocodile found on Concepts’ joint-effort. Underfoot, ABZORB midsoles round out this Spring-ready option in a white composition given tread by a black outsole.
