Despite being one of the most unique ASICS silhouettes, the GEL-Kinsei OG boasts one of the less heralded release rosters among the brand’s extensive catalog. Tokyo Olympics-ready pairs and an ode to rock climbing co-created with ROKH unquestionably brought attention to the sneaker inspired by Samurai armor, but neither made the visual statement that the model’s latest yellow ensemble makes.
Akin to Kiko Kostadinov‘s “Limeade” GEL-Burz 1, uppers on this GEL-Kinsei are clad in a high-vis, frozen yellow. While slightly fainter on the performance model from the early 2000s, the hue equally highlights the Kinsei’s intricate design. Synthetic overlays throughout the forefoot, midfoot and heel deliver protection and flexibility, while simultaneously checking all the boxes for the unshakeable “dad shoe” trend. Tongues, profile vector logos and collar lining feature a charcoal-like trim, but this toned-down arrangement is short-lived. Down below, the GEL-technology revels in a mossy-green accompanied by a split yellow and white molded frame.
Details of a stateside release for this Spring-friendly GEL-Kinsei are still unknown, but pairs are now available overseas at affiliate ASICS retailers.
