The Nike Air Max 90 Gets Covered In Gold Reptilian Scales

The Nike Air Max 90 Gets Covered In Gold Reptilian Scales

As part of its 30th Anniversary, the Nike Air Max 90 has been on a mission to show its true versatility. Having hit retailers last month in “Volt” and “Hyper Royal,” and slated to drop in Valentine’s Day and city-specific ensembles next week, the marquee runner has recently emerged in a much more peculiar outfit. Muted greys and whites accompany blacks all throughout the sole, forefoot, heel, and mudguard as they set the stage for golden reptilian overlays. Similar to on the AM90’s “New Species” release from last September, scales wrap around the toe box and slither up the midfoot, releasing their grip right above the upper TPU eyestays. This pair takes the reptilian theme a step further as it features a dubrae – uncommon for the ’90 silhouette – texturized by dozens of protrusions reminiscent of crocodile teeth. Furthermore, netting on the teal tongue creates a fish skin-like pattern. While not overtly in the cold-blooded mix, the orange that takes over both the bottom eyestay and rear logo may allude to the Ring-necked snake found throughout North America.

Grab a closer look at this mishmash of colors and textures here below and expect pairs to hit Nike.com in the coming months.
