Ever since the Air Max 90 turned 30, it’s become the footwear apple to Nike’s eye, turning it inside out with a more true-to-vintage creation while spawning OG scheme en-masse — today marked the Volt among others. But even prior, towards the latter half of 2019, the silhouette had its fair share of spotlight, most notably from online community the BASEMENT whose three-part capsule was informed by their three key and culturally distinct cities. The inline version of this, dubbed bluntly as the “City Pack,” travels in the same vein for 2020 though with an extra layer to its narrative.
Five pairs, five locales: the range dives headfirst into each, though not solely to their architecture or bustling nightlife but to their most characteristic professions — bakers to Paris, firemen to New York, and so on. NYC as well as the Parisian inspiration do well to capture their respective themes, laying down something subtle as the latter dyes entirely white with stylized text at the tongue as well as a flag on the heel while the former adds reflective accents and colors signature to the FDNY’s uniforms. Moreover, London, whose culture has been oft-used prior, draws from a place yet to be touched, postmen and postwomen, dressing the model with their regular issue jacket and a stamp that resembles Bill Bowerman himself. Tokyo forgoes taxi drivers to touch on its many construction workers, however, only in nod to signs surrounding the site as well as its cityscape. Rounding off the entire collection, Shanghai is a battle of the two most prominent delivery services coupled with a receipt and five star review.
