Notable aside from his brand — 1017 ALYX 9SM — Matthew M Williams’ relationship with Nike has blossomed even without the mention of his chest rig ridden studio, boasting technical fabrics and newfound cushioning that’s better catered to performance and training than lifestyle and high fashion. But days before his Autumn/Winter ’20 garments walk the runway of Paris Fashion Week, it seems the designer couldn’t help but go against this preconceived grain, teasing what is technically his label’s first swoosh collaboration: a four-part capsule of luxe Air Force 1 Highs. As such, each pair opts for a tumbled leather of obvious quality, strutting a visual composition that keeps the general template safe and sound. Monochromatic pairings, true-to-form triple whites, and variations of all sorts leaven a black and white palette with metallic-adorned text along the heel wrap marking with the collaborator’s namesake. What’s more, the straps — though mostly cut of the same grain — fastens by way of the signature Rollercoaster Buckle, furnishing with a technical touch well-expected.
