New Balance Continues Its Impressive Run of 998s With New Purple And Black Colorway

New Balance exploded in popularity over the past year, thanks to everything from Kawhi Leonard winning an NBA Title to collaborations with BEAMS, Aimé Leon Dore, and size?, and yet, the Boston-based shoe outfitter still has time to dedicate itself to the high-quality, in-line releases its been churning out for decades. Enter the New Balance 998 “Made in USA” in a purple-and-black colorway. The 998 model – first released in 1993 – deviates from its iconic gray color scheme to close the decade out with an almost “galaxy” edition, sporting different shades of purple across its mostly-suede upper. Or perhaps this is New Balance’s attempt to capitalize on this year’s “Joker” hype? (We see you, Stray Rats.) Either way, the 998’s newest look offers a breath-of-fresh-air to the shoe many loathed their dads for wearing, but are now rocking because of its comfortable ABZORB sole (and social media ubiquity).
