Kanye West may not have jumped over Jumpman just yet, but consider this – he’s just barely off the tarmac. Since signing with adidas in late 2013, the one known as ‘Ye has created a footwear empire thanks to the creative control bestowed on him by the German sportswear brand. In fact, the ability to maestro his own creations is the reason why he ended negotiations with Nike, and when it’s all said and done, letting Kanye walk might be the biggest what-ifs in the Swoosh’s history. In a recent feature with Forbes magazine, Kanye West revealed an extensive assortment of footwear samples, roughly 95% of which has yet to hit market. This extremely thorough and robust catalog is one of the reasons why the adidas Yeezy line will haul in $1.5 billion in business in 2019, and why that number could easily double in the coming years. Kanye’s prophetic jump over Jordan might come sooner than you think. We’ve picked out the ten most compelling adidas Yeezy samples revealed by Forbes (all imagery captured from their video here), so take a look at what’s next for Kanye’s burgeoning footwear empire.
We’ll start things off by pointing out the Yeezy Boost 350 v2, undoubtedly the most popular silhouette ever produced. Kanye has shown an affinity for earth-toned hues, but this screengrab reveals some vibrant orange, cool blue, and even a mustard yellow. With the 350 v2 established as the “Air Jordan 1” of adidas Yeezy, there’s no indication that this crowd-pleaser is looking to lay low.
Another massively popular Yeezy model is the 500 silhouette. Priced at $200, the Yeezy 500 is the most affordable adult offering – with the exception of the Powerphase (which we will address later). Colorways have been rather sparse, but it looks like we can expect some variation by way of bright orange hues and gum soles. In fact, we already know of two new Yeezy 500s coming late Fall.
This is one of the more interesting screenshots of the video. Pictured in the far back are what are likely scrapped samples of the Yeezy Boost 350 v2 with overlays, but the forefront are some mid-top version of the Yeezy Boost 700 and and unnamed model that at one point was rumored to be the Yeezy 550.
One of the most anticipated sneaker releases of the 2019 is the adidas Yeezy Basketball shoe. Already denounced by the NBA as unfit for on-court play (due to the massive reflective panel at the heel), the Yeezy Basketball shoe has recently re-surfaced on the feet of Kanye’s wife Kim Kardashian. That typically suggests a release coming soon, while this screenshot above reveals an array of colorways akin to the Yeezy Boost 350 v2 mood.
Roughly a year ago, a never-before-seen adidas Yeezy 700 model was revealed by 6ix9ine’s manager. Thought to be a custom-made shoe, it is pictured here once again – and if you look closely you’ll spot a Futurecraft 4D outsole. Another sample, or could Futurecraft cross over into Yeezy territory?
Another highly anticipated silhouette expected to release in 2019 is the funky adidas Yeezy 451 – the one with that looks like it’s being swallowed by a giant venus flytrap. Kanye tapped legendary footwear designer Steven Smith, who’s penned some of the greatest running shoes in history, to tweak the design.
It depends on who you ask, but the adidas Yeezy Boost 700 might be the most popular Yeezy shoe on the market. It exemplified and luxury-ified the chunky dad shoe, offering a sleek design at an elevated pricepoint. This photo above reveals a number of sample colorways and mid-top variants that are likely in the future plans for the 700 lineage.
This unreleased Yeezy sample, with the familiar ribbed outsole, is likely from the earlier stages of the 350 series. It reveals a number of overlays above the elastic primeknit upper with exterior lacing systems and a mid-cut shoe. Was this meant to be a winterized version of the Yeezy 350? Who knows.
This could quite possibly be the adidas Yeezy Boost 350 v3. It’s got enough of the core DNA, but offers a new cut, knit pattern, and even a fortified outsole. Yeezys for hiking? Sign us up.
Finally, the most affordable adidas Yeezy sneaker – the Powerphase – could be making a comeback soon. It was offered only in some drab colorways, but perhaps these neon samples are a reflection of Kanye’s lightening mood.
