Usually grey drab, the New Balance 997 continues to surprise in 2019, reaching a popularity unmatched by its contemporaries as it dons many a modern refresh as well as some of the most vibrant collaborations to date. In an effort to channel some of the energies of its most successful — namely the New York imprint Aimé Leon Dore — the Boston label has put forth a mixture of similarly energetic tones though matched up next to darker neutrals this time around. Pig suedes and luxuriously crafted mesh are, as always, par for the course with their texture lending to the overall appeal of the outlaid panelling. Toe boxes color block in a darker black shade, leading into what is a mosaic of neon yellows and electric pinks. The “N” logo and underlying components grasp boldly at the latter with much of the smooth leathers opting for the highlighter aesthetic. Pebbled formations add an almost animalistic note across the tongue while in no way taking away from the classic ethos. Grab a detailed look at the pair right below and expect to see them heading out to select retailers right now.
