TEDxPortland’s 9th annual event went down in the City Of Roses this weekend, and just as they have in years past, Nike created a special co-branded sneaker in honor of the event: an Air Trainer 1. Following in the footsteps of other special TEDxPortland silhouettes like the Air Jordan 1, Air Max 1, and Waffle Racer, the unique Trainer 1 was made for event speakers, performers, and volunteers. However, unlike previous special releases, a limited amount of pairs were also made available to event attendees, with all proceeds going towards ticket scholarships for next year’s 10th anniversary event.
From a design standpoint, these sharp shoes first made iconic by the legendary Bo Jackson stick close to their OG stylings. White leather serves a base while grey leathers/suedes and black leather appears on the overlays. Hot red accents then grace the midfoot swoosh/forefoot strap. There’s plenty of special TEDxPortland branding as well: “SPREAD” and “IDEAS” are stamped on the collar in bold block letters, a TEDxPortland logo embellishes the tongue badge, and printed dots adorn the heel for a nod to the conference’s 2019 theme of “connecting the dots.” Special insoles then round off the look. If you weren’t at the event this weekend, you unfortunately won’t be able to procure a pair, but you can check out a detailed set of images below.
