Although the adidas Top Ten is a worldwide classic, its legacy is especially rich in Detroit — where it’s the de facto sneaker for hustlers, go-getters, and fashionistas alike. The high-cut silhouette has become a true part of the Motor City’s street culture history, so for the Top Ten’s 40th anniversary adidas brought the shoe back to the city that made it famous, throwing a celebration in collaboration with retailer Mr. Alan’s last Friday, February 22nd.
The D’s finest entertainers, sneakerheads, and OGs headed to the Motown Museum for an event coordinated by Mr. Alan’s head Ty Mopkins that was all about the kicks, from a sneaker-themed cake to an ice sculpture, and even a custom Top Ten art piece created by local artist Troy Murray. Top Ten campaign heads and Detroit natives La’Britney, Mack Nickels, and Stewe all came through as well, making for a memorable event that encapsulated the sneaker’s four-decade history into one joyous night. D-Town’s love for the shoe hasn’t subsided one bit either — the shoe released exclusively at Mr. Alan’s that morning and sold out before the day was over.
