After officially announcing an endorsement deal with three-time All-Star and NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard, New Balance is back in the news again today to introduce his first on-court signature sneaker, the OMN1S. One of the most unique superstars in the league, Leonard’s relatively tame personality is what intrigued the Boston-based brand best known for its premium creations and dependable footwear before its flashiness, and now eight years into his career, Leonard is ready to roll out his first eponymous creation. In advance of the 2019 NBA All-Star game in Charlotte this Sunday, the Claw will have six classic colorways to choose from; the Detroit Camo, the Trust Leonard, the Black Ice, the Best Kept Secret, and the Project 515. Each of these colorways comes inspired by unique things that make Leonard the player he is today, which has aided in the Raptors becoming legitimate contenders in the burgeoning Eastern Conference. Check out all six of the designs below as well as a brief explanation on their inspiration and stay tuned for updates regarding the OMN1S’ retail release.
Trust Leonard Pays homage to 80s basketball including accents that call out the “golden era” signifying Leonard’s ability to stand out as an independent amongst the starts in the league.
DNA Comes inspired by powerful and destructive beasts capable of incredible feats, much like Leonard on the court.
Detroit Camo Harkens back to automobile manufacturers with its “dazzle camouflage” emulating Kawhi’s ability to mislead his opponents on the offensive end.
Black Ice Reminds fans of New Balance’s roots by preserving the three-pronged chicken foot that serves as the brand’s original inspiration in 1906.
Project 515 Is mean to show that the past can inform the future with hopes to inspire the next generation of up-and-coming hoopers.
Best Kept Secret Conveys courage and excitement, giving Kawhi and NB the ability to shatter industry expectations and reveal the NBA’s “Best Kept Secret”.
