Will adidas Need To Make Derrick Rose His First “All-Star” Shoe Since 2012?

Will adidas Need To Make Derrick Rose His First “All-Star” Shoe Since 2012?

The 2018-2019 NBA season has been a story of redemption for Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Derrick Rose. The beloved backcourt maven’s play has returned to a high level after he battled injuries like a blown-out knee — and even considered retirement — over the past half decade. And when it comes to sports there’s nothing fans eat up more than a redemptive tale, so Rose has also received the second-most All-Star votes among Western Conference guards — behind only the ultra-popular Steph Curry. If things stay this way for Rose, which they very likely will as All-Star voting closes at 11:59 PM January 21st, something that was borderline unthinkable at the start of the season might happen: adidas will be making Rose an All-Star shoe, his first since 2012.

Thankfully his D Rose 9 is up to the task: it’s dropped in a handful of clean colorways since first being revealed in early 2018, and now it’s received a “Zebra”-style makeover. The textured knit upper is dressed in black, while embroidered silver stripes on the toebox, a Chinese character on the medial heel stabilizer, and a Bulls-esque red three stripe graphic on the lateral ankle collar provide contrast. Rose’s signature logo then arrives on the heel in red, and the white Bounce midsole — the same tech used on Damian Lillard‘s adidas Dame 5 — features abstract black detailing for an interesting contrast with the simple upper design. Ultra-light tan on the outsole and collar then round off the look. Expect Rose’s newest kicks to arrive soon on adidas.com for $140 USD, and let us know what you think a potential All-Star shoe for the former Memphis Tiger might look like in the comments as well.
