With all the different colorways and constructions of the Puma Thunder that have been brought to market since the shoe was first unveiled this summer, it’s somewhat surprising that there hasn’t been a collaborative version yet. Typically, major footwear companies are champing at the bit to get another brand’s touch on their hottest new sneakers — pushing the all-important hype to a new level. However, Puma has opted to play the waiting game, letting the Thunder get traction — and an organic following — on its own before introducing a collaboration to market. The first brand to add their touch to the chunky silhouette? Montreal’s Atelier New Regime, known for their colorful, liberating designs. The Canadian creatives play off the Thunder’s retro stylings, adorning the upper in a medley of colors both bright and dark, making for a look that’s loud and eye-catching — but not too excessive. Orange, teal, and yellow do most of the talking, while navy, tan, and black serve as the base. A small debossed New Regime hit appears on the toebox, and the look is completed by a gum outsole.
