One of the most famous moves in NBA Playoff history, Julius “Dr. J” Erving’s incredible scoop layup in game 4 of the 1980 NBA Finals against the Lakers, a maneuver in which the Doctor floated in the air through two defenders long enough to scoop the ball around the backboard and over to the other side of the hoop for a reverse layup provided the inspiration for a classic Converse Pro Leather High releasing as part of the 16-shoe “Art Of A Champion” collection.
The shoe features a clean white leather upper with a red Converse chevron on the midfoot, red/gold Converse branding on the heel and red detailing around the collar as well. Sixteen gold tally marks adorn the lateral side of each shoe to represent the sixteen playoff wins necessary to secure an NBA Championship, and a gold deubré inscribed with “1980” appears on the laces. Further gold “16” branding replaces the Converse logo on the tongue of the right shoe, and the laces feature luxe gold tips. The championship homage is rounded off with the sixteen check mark graphic and Finals branding on the insoles. Look for these commemorative Pro Leathers to release April 19th on Nike.com for $110 USD.
