One of the biggest challenges that Vans designers face is taking their iconic silhouettes that have been reimagined in countless ways and giving them a fresh new look. Whether it be a remixed checkerboard aesthetic or a nod to Spongebob Squarepants, the premier skate brand is always looking to push the envelope and develop something fresh. Next up, is a Denim Patchwork capsule that takes the Sk8-Hi, the Slip-On, and the Authentic and draws inspiration from traditional Japanese boro patch working and sashiko stitching.
“This collection was inspired by the quilting technique that was typically found on clothing as a way to mend and repair garments for longevity,” Vans Head of Classic Footwear Design, Angie Dita said. “With boro patchwork comes beauty out of necessity. We wanted to showcase the sturdy construction with denim and heavy stitching on our heritage footwear models.”
Multiple denim patch designs are utilized all over all three sneakers, ranging from white to navy blue with white stitching and everything in between. All three Denim Patchwork Vans designs will arrive at select retailers as well as Vans.com later this month.
