New Balance To Release A 574 Inspired By A “Lost Prototype”

New Balance just released a modernized version of the 574 this summer dubbed the 574 Sport, but this latest release for the classic retro runner goes as far opposite from the updated design as possible. Instead of a modern look, the upcoming release actually goes even further back into history than a standard 574, as it’s built from the schematics of a lost prototype of the model from the late 1980s.

Not unlike the concept of the Air Max Zero, the 574 MLP (“LP” = lost prototype) is based off an early prototype version of the shoe that would later become the 574 that you know today. New Balance aficionados will recognize elements of the 576 in the design, making it the “missing link” between the 576 from the late 1980s and and the 574 that originally released in the early ’90s. The 574 MLP is presented in three archetypal New Balance looks of suede and mesh in blue, burgundy, and navy.

The New Balance 574 “Lost Prototype” releases September 9th at select retailers worldwide. In other New Balance news, check out the upcoming Stance Socks collab for the “All Day, All Night” 247 pack.
