Michael Jordan has just expanded his post-retirement business portfolio as he and a group of investors led by NY businessman Bruce Sherman and former New York Yankees star Derek Jeter have agreed to purchase the Miami Marlins from Jeffrey Loria. Jordan is listed as one of the sixteen investors of the Sherman/Jeter group, although it is unknown what Michael Jordan’s stake in the team is.

Obviously, this is not Michael Jordan’s first foray in professional baseball; he played for the Chicago White Sox minor league affiliates during his brief retirement from 1993-1995. Jordan Brand recently released shoes inspired by his playing days on the baseball diamond.

Michael Jordan is the majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets; after he increased his stake in the team from 80% to 89.5% back in June 2014, he was reported to be among the billionaires of the world. After the 1998 NBA season where he famously won his sixth NBA title, he considered continuing his playing career with Chicago Bulls in return for part ownership of the team. No such deal came into place, and Michael Jordan stayed retired until he returned to the Wizards in September, 2001.
