A lot has changed in the 30 years since the visible air wielding Nike Air Max 1 burst onto the scene in 1987, but the silhouette remains to be one of the most legendary creations from Tinker Hatfield and Nike, and for good reason. The model was inspired by Tinker’s trip to France to visit the Centre Georges Pompidou, a controversial building that showcases the inner-workings of a massive structure from the outside in and houses a public information library and the largest museum of modern art in Europe. It’s designed by Renzo Piano, Richard Rogers, and Gianfranco Franchini and inspired Tinker to show off that visible air bubble and more.
2017 marks the 30th anniversary of the Nike Air Max 1. We already know that two classic colorways in the Nike Air Max 1 “Sport Red” and “Sport Royal” will be arriving in March (read more about that here) but is this Dynamic Berry/Vivid Sulfur option meant to kick off the celebration a bit earlier than expected? Based on the special colorway, the unique ‘1987’ insole, and premium vintage-inspired suede used throughout, we’d have to guess so. The tongue even features a uniquely vibrant gradient of colorways landing on the classic ‘Air Max’ branded Swoosh. What do you think of this pair?
