Nike Skateboarding has been celebrating the history of their ever-changing shoebox designs through a number of Nike SB Dunk “Shoebox” releases throughout 2016. Nike SB rider Ishod Wair remembers his first ever purchase of Nike SB footwear that came during the era of the Nike SB ‘Black Box’. To celebrate the occasion, Nike will be releasing the Nike SB Dunk High “Black Box” on December 26th for $130 USD, but not before Nike SNKRS give us another detailed piece recalling some of the most iconic skate options to ever come in the iconic black box design.
Ishod first recalls his purchase of the Nike SB Dunk High in White, Khaki, and Light Stone back in May 2006. “Dunks have been skated for so long … you see people like Gino in old/classic footage skating the Dunks. It is a part of not only Nike shoe history, but skate history as a whole,” Wair said recalling his first purchase. Other favorites of Ishod’s included fellow Nike SB team rider Weiger Van Wageningen’s Nike SB Dunk Low that featured black suede with white accents and a unique PE logo on the heel panel. Simple and timeless, the offering’s quality and the skater it commemorated made for a truly unique Dunk.
But Ishod couldn’t have every Nike SB Dunk offering that he wanted back in the day. A particular design he coveted but simply couldn’t get his hands on was the Nike SB Dunk Low “Lunar Eclipse”. The Lunar Eclipse colorway featured two regional exclusives on the West Coast and East Coast, each featuring a logo of the moon expressing the particular Lunar Eclipse happening back in March 2006. “I just thought they looked cool, never had them, couldn’t afford them.” Neither could we.
