Just how is Under Armour gaining ground on Nike? Not only are their products improving every year, but they’re actually being the Beaverton rival in the athlete category. With Cam Newton being named NFL MVP last night, he joined fellow Under Armour brandmates Steph Curry (NBA), Bryce Harper (MLB), Carey Price (NHL), and Jordan Spieth (PGA) as the most dominant and valuable athlete in their respective sports (there is no “MVP” in golf, but an equally grand Player Of The Year award, which went to Spieth). This is key in springboarding UA closer and closer to the Nike giant because the new wave of fresh-faced athletes appeal much more to the current generation than aging stars like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. With UA running the table with superstar athletes across the board, the pressure is on Under Armour to create new products that translate to sales. Did you see this coming?
