There were some unfounded rumors regarding Gentry Humphrey’s departure from Nike a few months back, but the former Jordan Brand and Nike Sportswear head is without a doubt aligned with Nike – and in a much bigger way. After making his mark with Jordan and NSW, Gentry is now VP of Footwear for Nike Golf, a category that is on the forefront of innovate designs and styles for the ever-evolving sport of golf. The demographic is certainly much younger, with guys like Rory McIlroy, Jordan Speith, Ricker Fowler, and other athletes in their twenties dominating their scene, so there’s no better than Gentry to take the lead and remove the stigma of golf of being an old man’s game.
During an exclusive media video chat with select media, Gentry confirmed that more retro styles would be converted into golf shoes, like the Air Force 1 Low and the Air Max 90. And given the massive popularity of the Air Jordan 6 Low golf shoes, it’s quite clear that the demand for stylish golf shoes is very much alive, even if it means those who are wearing them never go beyond a driving range. We’ll bring you some more updates from Nike Golf as new products continue to roll out.
