When the topic of adidas comes up, we immediately think of their competitors Nike and Under Armour. However, with the three stripes brand losing a grip on the U.S. market over the years, it’s more fitting to state that the German-based brand can’t consider Nike a competitor anymore. According to industry journalist Matt Powell, Q1 brand share for 2015 revealed that the athletic giant adidas has similar market share with Skechers and Asics on the athletic footwear front and Hanes on the activewear front. That said, global market share is certainly less skewed to Nike/Jordan, but it’s clear that in North America, adidas shouldn’t be considered a powerhouse brand for the foreseeable future, despite the increase in Q1 sales by adidas Originals and their presence in professional sports leagues.
