Earlier today we learned of a special project within the Nike World Headquarters called the Jordan MTM, a newly crafted sneaker made just for President Obama. While we’ve yet to be graced with a look at the apparent red/white/blue sneakers, we’re wondering if MTM isn’t particularly one specific shoe, but rather an introduction to a series of premium Jordan footwear much like what HTM is for Nike. The HTM triumvirate of Hiroshi Fujiwara, Tinker Hatfield, and Mark Parker has been a signifier of the utmost in premium and exclusive releases, but it actually dates back to 2002 when the trio created some awesome lifestyle footwear with unique touches and even its first made-from-scratch shoe called the HTM Zoom Macropus (limited to 1,505 pairs).
“MTM” sounds all too familiar to the abbreviated Nike-based trio, and that’s a great coincidence because if our intuitions are correct, we may be blessed with some truly top-tier Air Jordan and Jordan footwear in the future. Can you imagine an Air Jordan Retro MTM release? There’s no question that Jordan Brand isn’t shy about elevating their products and accompanying pricetags, so if Jordan MTM becomes an entity of its own, the landscape of Jays could get very exciting. For now, Jordan MTM is merely the name the of shoe that was created for the POTUS, so stay tuned for a first look and let us know what your thoughts on the potential future of MTM.
Update: Below is the Jordan MTM Pack scheduled to release at NikeLab P75 in Paris on June 13th and globally on June 26th.
