Nike Close To A Long-Term Deal With The NBA

After the announcement that adidas would not extend their NBA Deal for apparel rights, rival Nike is close to securing a deal that would take effect come the 2017-2018 NBA season. According to Sports Business Daily, the Swoosh presented a deal to ownership in a meeting in New York today and both sides have come to an agreement in principle. This also comes with the announcement that Nike will be allowed to put the Swoosh on authentic game jerseys, as well as a rumor that the Jumpman logo could also appear on jerseys – something that would make current Hornets owner Michael Jordan rather happy after he had his brand handle the rebrand of his Charlotte squad’s current uniforms. This would mark the first time that a manufacturer will be allowed to have their logo seen on both warm up apparel and jerseys during actual games. So what can we expect from Nike’s probable partnership with the NBA? If this post is any indication, Nike’s NCAA Elite uniform construction could finally appear at the professional level. But what else can we expect? Flywire collars like in the NFL? HyperElite shorts? All we’re hoping for is the return of the legendary Swingman jerseys and a quick goodbye to sleeved uniforms forever. Let us know what developments you expect from a potential Nike x NBA deal in the comments section.
