There are several hotbeds of hoops around the world, but Chicago is singingly hot – and ready to take over as the true epicenter of basketball. The city is deeply rooted in greatness within the sport, with names like Coach K, Derrick Rose, Anthony Davis, and Jabari Parker all carrying on the blazing torch of historical greatness. With the FIBA World Championships kicking off in just a few weeks, Nike Basketball is ready to tell the story of Chicago’s basketball legacy with the World Basketball Festival, a three-day event taking place at the 63rd St. Beach House off Chicago’s Lakeshore Drive.
Yesterday, Nike hosted a select group of media through the entire Festival, starting at the nearby Niketown Chicago and ending at the Beach House village. Through the various stops around the city, we learned why and how Chicago rose to prominence. Quickly, we learned that Chicago is more than just a factory for top NBA ballers -the city breeds men who just happen to play the sport really well. Follow us through our journey through the World Basketball Festival below, and if you’re in Chicago, make sure you head out to the 63rd St. Beach House to experience the World Basketball Festival for yourself.
The Nike World Basketball Festival starts today, August 14th, and ends on Saturday, August 16th.

New York City is the mecca, but Chicago may be the most significant city for hoops. A trip to the United Center is a quick reminder that the greatest basketball dynasty took place here.
