The Jordan Brand palette has been consistently elevated this year through a series of calculated moves aligning them with a more high end reputation. The new Jordan Shine marks their official entry into the luxury footwear category, and the new Russell Westbrook x Jordan Brand x Barneys collection even has them elbowing their way into the competitive realm of designer apparel. It’s clear here that Jordan Brand is incredibly selective in regards to collaborative partners; the Air Jordan 1 by Public School, a New York City-based brand that’s already having an incredible summer thanks to that 2014 CFDA award for Menswear Designer of the Year given to label leads Maxwell Osborne & Dao-Yi Chow, is next up in this series of impressive maneuvers by the brand.
The Public School x Air Jordan 1 very much lines up with the label’s aesthetic; the pair sticks mostly to monochromatic mode, and any branding that shows up remains subtle. Their New York home is paid tribute to both in the form of the initials on the back side and via the covert manhole icon that shows up on the insole. For now the Public School x Air Jordan 1 is a 1/50 friends and family exclusive, but as mentioned when the shoes were first revealed, there are plans for a retail release version in the future. That version will feature “NY23” inscriptions for the heel area rather than the “PSNY” found here, and will release exclusively at the Flight 23 Jordan Brand retail store.
