Damian Lillard To Opt Out of adidas Contract, Become Sneaker Free Agent

Damian Lillard To Opt Out of adidas Contract, Become Sneaker Free Agent

Damian Lillard Leaving Adidas Contract

Damian Lillard’s future as an NBA star is unquestionable. With multiple accolades already under his belt and a long career ahead of him, Lillard has the potential to be the face of the next generation of elite ballers. adidas was incredibly shrewd in signing the Portland guard to a deal, but the irony is that his overachievement on-court might give him the opportunity to leave the three-stripes brand. Because of all of his accomplishments, he now has the option to vacate his adidas contract at the end of this season with no strings attached, and while that in no way means that he will leave the brand, a bidding war among the highest spenders (adidas, Nike, Under Armour) is surely to begin.

The sneaker landscape is one dominated by the alpha signature athletes, and with Kobe nearing retirement, LeBron arguably reaching his peak, Kevin Durant shedding the fresh face look, and Derrick Rose’s uncertainty, the lane is wide open for Damian Lillard. He has all the tools to become the next name in the exclusive signature athlete club, but what brand he chooses to represent plays a major role in his potential legacy as a signature sneaker athlete. What are your thoughts on Lillard as a sig athlete (we already pinned him as one with high potential)? Will he leave adidas? If so, where do you think he will end up? Let us know.
