Nike’s criteria for signature shoe worthiness includes a series of qualities that only a select few have possessed. Part of this exclusive fraternity is Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, and a fictional puppet known as 1/2 Cent. We first saw the Chris Rock-voiced sidekick of Penny Hardaway in the mid-1990’s and since then, Lil’ Penny has grown in popularity as part of the burgeoning Air Penny signature shoe line. Back in 2009, Nike gave the diminutive guy due props with the Air Half Cent – a hybrid of all the Penny signature models. In 2014, Lil’ Penny is getting his own unique design – one that should carry on the Air Penny line while giving sneaker enthusiasts an all new design to get excited about.
This first look at the Nike Lil’ Penny Posite reveals a number of familiar details from the Penny saga. The overall silhouette is comparable to the Zoom Rookie, while some details are directly ported from Air Penny signature models; overall, the entire package is rather distinct from the Nike Penny shoes as a whole. This colorway of Black and Bright Red is a nice follow-up to the Air Penny V “Lil Penny” colorway, while the lasered graphics on the Posite upper and interior lining should offer a nice sub-plot involving Hardaway’s pal.
