With “Rayguns” being such a hot topic lately, let’s take a look back to when this mascot first came to light. Back in 2005, Nike created the “Roswell Rayguns” – a fictitious retro-era basketball squad made up of Dr. Funk (Vince Carter), The Undisco Kid (Jermaine O’neal), Numbers Runner (Baron Davis), The Shot Caller (Paul Pierce), and The Hustler (Jerry Stackhouse). This young, talented squad would done old-school disco-style gear in one of the sickest uniforms ever, anchored by a vibrant yellow/orange colorway and the Roswell Raygun logo. Nike SB would later spin the Rayguns into a pair of SB Dunk Low releases in that same year, but since then, the Rayguns were quietly put away in the archives until they were unearthed for the 2013 NBA All-Star Game.
Going back to those 2005 SB Dunk releases – both the ‘Home’ and ‘Away’ versions were incredibly popular and still remain as collectible items today. It appears that these were also given the SB Dunk Force treatment as we’re getting a first look at the Raygun SB Dunks with an Air Force 1 outsole. Another quirky detail regarding these Dunks is that the ‘White’ was considered the Away colorway, while the ‘Black’ was Home! In any case, peep this gallery of the Nike SB Dunk Force 1 (check the gum outsole on the white pair) and place your bids on this incredibly rare set from thecoolshoeshine on eBay.
