NIKE AIR FORCE 1 LOW WEEK PART 3

Very few individuals can boast the levels of success achieved by Mark “Cartoon” Machado. Mr. Cartoon, recognized for his intense graffiti and impeccable fine-line style of tattoo artwork, went from air-brushing t-shirts and cars at the age of 12 to being one of the most sought-after tattoo artists in the industry. The man is representative of all-things Mexican-American culture in Los Angeles, staying true to his heritage while forging a distinct, award-winning style of artistry that’s been sought after by the hardest of thugs to the most well-respected of international brands.

Mr. Cartoon worked with Nike in the early-mid 2000’s, completing a series of Air Force 1 designs that paid homage to the city of Los Angeles; each of his designs featured the fine, pinstripe-style brush strokes, but one pair in particular that stands out above the rest is the LA Dodgers-inspired “Blue Tattoo” release. It featured navy and grey with spider-web detailing on the toe-box, a graffiti-style LA embroidery on the heel, and several other graphics that made these one of the most sought after Air Force 1s of all-time (the insanely-rare Hyperstrike version commands nearly $2,000 in the open market). In addition, this design was later revived in 2009 as part of LIVESTRONG capsule of these highly-regarded Air Force 1s. Continue on for a look at this legendary Air Force 1 Low for tonight’s Classics Revisited and stay tuned for more AF1s on the following days!
