When images of a never before seen Air Jordan IV colorway popped up last week on the feet of former Jordan Brand head honcho, Gentry Humphrey, the sneaker world was abuzz with rumors and speculation on the origin of the shoe. Gentry was spotted wearing the mysterious IV’s at this year’s Quai 54 Tournament in Paris, but actual details on the shoe itself were scarce. Sneaker News did some digging for the story, and it turns out that this pair was one in a series of special PE’s created exclusively for Gentry as a going away/thank you gift for all his years of hard work and dedication in helping JB grow to be a billion dollar company, before leaving for his new role at Nike Sportswear. As a play on the way Spike used to call MJ, “Money”, in the classic Mars Blackmon ads, Gentry’s success with Jordan Brand eventually landed him the nickname “G-Money” from the JB team. To further tie in the Spike reference, this pair was created as a nod to the “Mars” Air Jordan IV with a “G$” cartoon version of Gentry replacing the Spike graphic. Get a better look after the jump, because who knows if and when we’ll ever see them again. Photos: Dem’d
