March is here, and that means it’s time for the third annual Sneaker News March Madness Tournament! This year, we’re in the search for the best non-OG Air Jordan of all-time, so make sure to get your votes in. Staying on Air Jordan news, we got a nice look at the GS version of the Air Jordan VII Olympic while catching wind of Dwyane Wade’s Playoff shoe. The Nike Basketball Elite Series finally debuted, as Sneaker News was first to break the news of the LeBron 9, Hyperdunk 2011, and Kobe VII Elite. While the Zoom KD wasn’t part of the Elite squad, we did see the PE for the Nike EYBL program, set for an April commencement. Nike Skateboarding generated a lot of interesting topics of debate this week; first, we saw a new sneaker box while discovering that the ‘SB’ designation might be gone for good for some models, and second, Nike issued an apology for an SB Dunk nickname created outside of their own walls.
In other Sneaker News, pictures of the Nike Air Penny V were leaked, leading to some interesting opinions by our readers. Nike will also bring back the Air Force 180 High but without the Pressure Pump, a change that might very well be embraced by even the most strict standards. Dwyane Wade switched over to the Air Jordan XIV for the entire week, although Miami’s 1-2 record for the week may indicate a need to switch back to the Fly Wade 2. SXSW was a great event to spot your favorite celebrities wearing some sick sneakers, like Jay-Z and his Yeezy 2’s and Lil’ Wayne and his Playoff XII’s. Reebok made some news with the sick Extra Butter collaboration and the news of adding Rick Ross’ to Team ‘Bok. The cult classic Air Woven will return later this month, a nice three-way collab among Vans and two of the most influential brands of this generation will hit stores in June, and a look at an early wear-test sample of the Air Foamposite One rounded out this week’s best news. We’ve got it all below, so don’t miss a single beat by checking out this week’s Weekly Rewind!
