Big-men don’t sell shoes? That certainly wasn’t the trend in the early 90’s when towering forces ruled the paint. The shift in power in the half-court set experienced a severe shift to the backcourt when the NBA Center became a rarity around the post-Jordan retirement era, but this quick teaser of Patrick Ewing hangtags brings us back to the days of dominant seven-footers and the glory age of chunky high-tops. For those who can remember, Patrick Ewing had his own line of signature shoes under the Next Sports umbrella, spawning a thorough line of Ewing-branded kicks that gained considerable popularity while competing against the Nike Air Force and Etonic/LA Gear high-tops worn by competing sequoias like David Robinson and Hakeem Olajuwon. Does this cluster of Ewing ’33’ hangtag/keychains which were included back with the original releases hint at a possible return for some of these forgotten treasures? According to the EwingAthletics Twitter page that just popped up with this teaser pic and the message, “Ewing back”, it’s looking like that certainly may be the case. As always, keep it locked into to Sneaker News for all the latest developments on this intriguing notion of a “Ewing 33” resurrection.
UPDATE: The Ewing Twitter page has been updated with the good news we were all hoping for. Looks to be official – Ewing comeback: summer 2012!
