“Most people who collect shoes are showing off what they have, and I think this is one of the most ‘showing off’ shoes . . . Hey, this one is glowing!“
When you consider the success of the boutique and its illustrious history of collaborations, it’s clear Solebox headman Hikmet Sugör simply gets the sneaker industry. For the German boutique’s latest tag team effort, Hikmet called upon his love of sci-fi films and the classic TV show Knight Rider (the OG series, natch) to inspire the Solebox x Reebok Pump Omni Zone. The initial samples even mimicked KITT’s signature scrolling headlight, but Sugoer axed this option along with another sample with green lights in favor of something more closely connected to the sneaker’s natural colorway. And while it might be easy to see these and think, “Oh, an LA Lights redux,” Sugör went so far as to say that “LA Gear didn’t influence [the design process] in any way . . . I don’t like blinking shoes.” Click through to see Hikmet’s video rundown of the Solebox x Reebok Pump Omni Zone with SneakerFreaker Germany and stick with Sneaker News for updates on what’s currently scheduled for a March 5th in-store release.
