“This is how we take the old from new, the new to the old, the old from the new!” Yes we’re about to take you back….. Way back…… into time! In early 2005 there were surely plenty of quickstrikes and foreign exclusives for AF1 heads to beast after. However, it would be a more close to home release found in these Camouflage AF1’s that would rock the sneaker world at the start of 2005 setting the tone for what would be a very good year in sneakers. This AF1 was an Urban tier product which meant it was at Malls, Mom & Pops, and in virtually every other store that carried in-line Urban Nike product. However, these babies became quite hard to find after about a week, selling out in every location almost immediately. In 2005 hip-hop had not yet “tightened up” its look. With baggy clothing and black or white oversized tees still being a staple of any self respecting street kid’s wardobe these classic camouflage AF1 lows found their way into almost every closet in the hood. And of course with the suburbs fast on the heels of “hood-fashion” the need for these camouflage creations extended even further into the sneaker culture. These low-key $75 AF1’s became in such high demand that shortly after their release eBay prices were reaching nearly $200 for a pair; a resale value that is unheard of for a GR of today that’s for sure! It is surely the simplicity of the design and the perfect hue of colors in this Nike-produced camo pattern made this shoe a sure fire winner. Extending the camouflage pattern to the outsole and insoles was definitely the nail in the coffin as these AF1’s killed the game back in 2005. Even picky collectors who usually snubbed their noses at “GRs” copped a pair or two or three! Question is, were you one of those collectors?
