Eddie Van Halen Sues Nike for Copyright Infringement

Do you see the resemblance above?  On one hand, the colours and striping are identically coloured.  On the other hand, the guitar features stripes of varying widths and are mostly white, whereas the midsole of the Nike Dunk Low evenly mixes black and white stripes of even widths.  Nike normally goes out of its way to avoid legal issues, but trouble has erupted as Eddie Van Halen alledges “irreparable harm and damage,” for violating his trademark on the signature ‘Frankenstein’ guitar.  Nike insists that they “have not infringed on any rights held by Mr. Van Halen,” reminding us that, “Nike’s Dunk shoe design is not substantially similar to any of the Van Halen designs, and Nike has not referenced the ‘Van Halen’ name or image as part of any marketing campaign or promotional material associated with the shoe.”  Interesting stuff here, so you know Sneaker News will keep you up to date with the latest developments.  via TheVine
