Nike Safari – A look back at the classic pattern & colors

Nike Safari – A look back at the classic pattern & colors

Nike Air Safari Pattern Collection

With the release of two additional chapters to the Air Safari 87’s story this past Spring and Summer, we felt it was time to take a look back to the 2003 retro and some of the sneakers inspired by the Safari 87’s OG colors in the past few years since. Starting with the newest on the left the Keep Rippin Stop Slippin Air Max 1 release June 2008, the Air Force 1 Safari released April 2008, Air Oasis Safari released July 2006 and the Air Safari 87 Retro released in 2003. We also took a look at the Air Max 1 Safari designed by Atmos released in 2002.

Take a look with us at this collection of sneakers inspired by “Safari”.

Air Max 1 Keep Rippin Stop Slippin

This was a surprise to us, we just didn’t expect another Air Safari inspired shoe after the Air Force 1 was announced. But we do enjoy the attempt. Minus the slightly darker orange and the addition of the fur, this is an overall dope colorway that will become one of the best Air Max 1s but compared to the Atmos designed Air Max 1, we can clearly see the winner.

Nike Air Force 1 Safari

When the Air Force 1 was announced we jumped for joy, mostly due to our love for the classic Air Safari. In our comparisons photos you can see that these are an excellent inspired colorway and we do enjoy the light grey and white safari print. Currently this sneaker is being slept on hard but a select few know to get a few extra pairs for that rainy day. It would be interesting to note, several years ago, sneaker customizer artist SBTG got his claim to fame by remixing a pair of Air Force 1s in this manner…

Nike Air Oasis Safari – Asia Exclusive

We first learned of the Air Oasis Safari through our sister site Freshness back in 2006 and were sad the sneaker never made it to the American market. Recently we were happened on several pairs from a Japanese retailer at an incredible price and we got it just in time for our collection. With the Air Safari, originally a trail sneaker, the Air Oasis gave it another life adding height and loosing some weight. Also another excellent job at keeping to the original colors.

Nike Air Safari 87 Retro

The 2003 retro. For those who destroyed their pair in 1987 and wished for a retro, got their wish in 2003 with the release of the Air Safari 87. Unfortunately there weren’t too many people who owned a pair in 1987 and wished for another but new collectors got a chance to get theirs. Slightly slept on in 2003, many missed on them and are in full regret now.

Nike Air Max 1 Safari by Atmos

This is perhaps one of the best Atmos or even best of all time collaborations ever. Before new wave collectors knew of the Air Safair or some of Nike’s classic patterns like the elephant print, speckled print and of course the safari print, Atmos created this sneaker as an homage to the Air Safari 87. Taking the Air Max 1, Atmos ‘killed it’ in every aspect, from the safari print, to the suede uppers, the orange fabric toebox and those amazing gum outsoles. One of the best of all time ever.
